Many sprayers who have long since moved beyond graffiti as a brief phase of youthful rebellion and instead placed name writing at the center of their now legal creative work are reminiscent of the self-referential positions of the Expressionists of the 20th century. Using the example of the Basel graffiti legend Sigi DARE von Koeding, who died at an early age, the question is explored as to whether the colorful, expressive works of one of the best name writers perhaps currently reveal everything that Expressionism originally stood for and still stands for today.
