With this T-shirt, EINE STADT WIRD BUNT and UNDERPRESSURE commemorate the writer “ERIC”, hip-hop and harbor street activist who died in 2009.
The motif:
The bridge at the Rübenkamp S-Bahn station is still innocent gray when ERIC leaves the lettering “FUNK MUSIC” and a B-Boy with a boom-box in his hand here one night in 1987. Hardly any other Hamburg sprayer reached such a wide audience as early as ERIC. For example with the “Blitzfinger” at the Berliner Tor. The striking piece was one of the triggers for the founding of the railroad police's “SOKO Graffiti” in 1988. One reason for ERIC's fame was also the political messages that he skillfully placed around the city. Legendary: a silver “EAT THE RICH” with which he decorated a dark Jaguar X300 in Hafenstrasse.
On his initiative, writers, b-boys and rap enthusiasts from all over Hamburg came together for a few years to draw and chat in the Hafenstrasse pub “Ahoi”. DJ Mad and ERIC himself were among those at the turntables, and beer, juice and tea were served at the bar.
Even in the years that followed, ERIC lived for togetherness. He was involved in the “Volküche” and organized parties in Hafenstrasse, where he himself lived from the mid-1990s. And he continued to spray pieces and political statements, many of which have burned themselves into the collective memory of the scene.
In 2009, ERIC had a fatal accident on the subway tracks at Jungfernstieg. With him, Hamburg's graffiti scene lost one of its most colorful personalities. Anyone who was ever lucky enough to meet him experienced someone who was always friendly and respectful towards others. In this way, ERIC not only built bridges between hip-hop and the left-wing scene. He also showed them what community means. With his positive attitude to life, he became a role model for many people.
